Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a non-invasive procedure designed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and tighten your skin. The procedure is also called the “vampire facial” or “collagen induction therapy.” Your aesthetician will use a hand-held microneedling device to penetrate the skin and induce the production of collagen to create younger looking skin.
Microneedling Procedure Overview
Microneedling with PRP is designed for those who want to improve the appearance of minor skin imperfections. Blood derived PRP treatment delivers a high concentration of biological nutrient-rich cells and platelet-rich plasma. The procedure treats issues such as fine lines and wrinkles, scoring, and skin laxity as well as uneven skin texture and tone.
We favor the hand-held Eclipse MicroPen Evo, a cordless dermal microneedling device that has advantages over older devices. The MicroPen allows your aesthetician to customize your treatment for predictable and optimum clinical results.
Your aesthetician will apply a topical anesthetic cream to the target area an hour before your microneedling PRP treatment. A practitioner will draw blood from a vein in your arm. Your blood is then placed in a centrifuge to isolate platelets for the PRP treatment. The microneedling device contains sterile needles that penetrate the skin. Your skin is cleansed and your aesthetician will glide the device over your skin. The sensation experienced by patients during treatment can be compared to a mild sandpaper sensation.
After the area is treated, your aesthetician will apply the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) that will release several essential growth factors and signaling proteins to improve the tone and texture of your skin. Since the procedure uses your own blood, there is virtually no risk of allergic reactions to the microneedling with PRP treatment.
Fillers or injectables are sometimes used in conjunction with microneedling. However, it is best to wait for several days or a week before additional treatments.
There are many alternatives to microneedling to treat fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Chiang will meet with you to recommend the procedure that is right for you. Alternative procedures include Morpheus8 (Microneedling + Radiofrequency); chemical peels; IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy; laser resurfacing; and HydraFacials.
Microneedling with PRP is considered to be a safe procedure when performed by a well-trained aesthetician. Some people find that their skin becomes red, warm, itchy or tight for a couple of days after treatment.
Prior to your consultation, we want to learn as much as possible about you so that we can best prepare for your visit. We want to understand your concerns, goals, timeline, and your budget to help determine whether we have the appropriate tools and options to deliver your best results.
During your consultation, your assigned Patient Experience Coordinator and Dr. Chiang will discuss your concerns in more depth. The doctor will do a physical assessment and then come up with treatment options that balance your needs to manage your downtime, your results, and how we can help address your goals. Many times, a multi-modal approach may be presented to help provide the best outcomes.
After discussing your options, you will continue your journey with your Patient Experience Coordinator to further review your quotes and review the next steps of your aesthetics plan.

Automated Microneedling (also known as Epidermal Collagen Induction Therapy or ECIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the improvement of the skin’s texture, tone and color. During this procedure, the Eclipse MicroPen® is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to aid in the production of collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles. Eclipse MicroPen® Elite also creates micro-channels which allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing the effects in deeper layers of the skin.
Reduction in the appearance for fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture and softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Eclipse Micro-Pen® Elite can improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
Micro-Pen® Elite can be used on all parts of the body: face, neck décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
A sterile cartridge containing 12 tiny micro-points is attached to the Micro-Pen® Elite. Your skin-care professional will apply sterile saline to your skin and select the appropriate pen position based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
The feeling associated with the Eclipse Micro-Pen® Elite is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip makes the treatment more comfortable.
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment.
