How Does Juvéderm Work?

Juvéderm is a highly effective way to counteract some of the normal signs of facial aging that are commonly caused by the natural aging process. As your body gets older, it produces less and less collagen and elastin. These compounds are the keys to helping your skin maintain its youthful features.

Juvéderm is made with a synthetic form of something known as hyaluronic acid (HA). It is a unique, smooth gel that is thicker or more diluted based on the type of treatment needed. Juvéderm uses Vycross® technology, which cross-links HA molecules to create a smoother, more effective filler.

When injected into key areas of the face, this compound goes to work helping your skin retain moisture more effectively, enabling it to maintain volume and generally restoring your youthful features. It also works to encourage your body’s production of collagen and elastin, essentially rejuvenating your look from the inside out.

This can be done with procedures that either dissolve the fat (Kybella), tighten or melt the fatty tissue (AccuTite), remove the fat (Liposuction), or even freeze the fat (CoolSculpting).

VOLUMA® XC adds volume, lifting and contouring the cheek area to address midface volume loss. To temporarily reverse signs of aging, VOLUMA® XC provides natural-looking and long-lasting results for up to two years. You’ll notice a smoother contour and a more youthful facial appearance.

Vollure XC

VOLLURE® XC addresses moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including smile and laugh lines around the nose and mouth, also known as nasolabial folds. For patients 21 and older, adding volume to facial wrinkles gives you a smoother appearance for up to eighteen months.

Ultra Plus XC

Your Juvéderm Treatment Experience

The Juvéderm treatment experience is a very convenient one, and we can complete your session in under an hour, making this a highly popular “lunchbreak” procedure that is ideal for patients with active lives and busy schedules. Before you visit us for your injections, you’ll have an informative consultation with Dr. Cho and/or Dr. Chiang. This husband and wife team leads our staff and offers more than 40 years of combined experience, enabling you to look forward to exceptional results that will meet your expectations.

Before we start, we’ll ensure you are comfortable by using a topical anesthetic that numbs the treatment area. The product will then be carefully injected according to a treatment pattern that was developed with you by your aesthetic professional. The needle used is very, very fine, so the injections are normally quite tolerable. You’ll experience some redness and tenderness in the treatment area, but this will fade quite quickly, and you’ll notice your results immediately. This will be the extent of your recovery period, and you’ll enjoy enhanced volume in no time at all.

What is it?

JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is a smooth, clear, colorless hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine).

What is hyaluronic acid?

HA is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human skin that retains moisture. JUVÉDERM® is manufactured using VYCROSS® technology, during which, a small amount of the compound BDDE is added to crosslink the HA in the gel. This results in a specialized and smooth injectable gel that produces jawline definition in the treated area.

How does it work?

JUVÉDERM® is a clear gel that is injected directly in the jaw area using an ultrafine needle or cannula to improve jawline definition in adults over the age of 21 with moderate to severe loss of jawline definition.

What does it do?

The product provides volume to augment the shape and structure of the lower face, creating a smooth contour along the jawline and/or helping to reduce the appearance of jowls. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection by reducing sensitivity to pain.

What should I expect following the procedure?

In the JUVÉDERM® clinical study, the most common side effects were temporary responses at the treatment site, such as tenderness, lumps/bumps, pain, swelling, firmness, bruising, redness, itching, and discoloration. These side effects usually lasted 2 weeks or less.

Within the first 24 hours, you should minimize strenuous exercise, exposure to extensive sun or heat, and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of the above may increase temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area. You should ask your doctor when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

Will I need more than one treatment to achieve my desired results?

You may, depending on your aesthetic goals. You should discuss your treatment goals and plan with your doctor.

Do the results last forever?

No. Hyaluronic acid fillers like JUVÉDERM® are not permanent. The clinical study followed patients for one year and showed that the majority of patients (61%, 84/137) maintained their results for that one-year timeframe.
