In truth, a Mommy Makeover is a smart marketing term that traditionally refers to a woman who has had children and seeks to restore her pre-pregnancy figure who has combined cosmetic surgery of the breasts (most often an augmentation, or “boob job“) with a tummy tuck.
A Mommy Makeover is customized to each patient’s “makeover” goals. There are no unbreakable rules! And, believe it or not, these operations do not require pregnancy; some women experience physical changes similar to pregnancy, such as severe weight loss or aging.
While some moms’ bodies do not alter much after pregnancy, the majority of women do. Breast deflation, drooping and sagging, abdominal stretch marks, separation of the abdominal muscles resulting in abdominal wall bulging, and additional fat deposits that stubbornly persist despite a balanced diet and regular exercise are common alterations.
Unfortunately, many of these changes are irreversible, despite Moms’ efforts to become physically fit and follow a good diet and lifestyle… The good news is that this is exactly where a Mommy Makeover might come in handy!
Is it necessary to have a breast augmentation and a stomach tuck as part of a Mommy Makeover? No.
In truth, a “Mommy Makeover” can include any cosmetic operation involving the breasts, body, or face, and it does not always have to require invasive surgery.
Some ladies will benefit from a breast lift or reduction to reach their personal makeover goals without the use of implants. Other women may not want their breasts altered at all, preferring instead to focus on their midsections and hips/thighs.
Even if their children are in primary school, some mothers, especially after twin pregnancies or having numerous children, have a lot of stretch marks and still look pregnant! These women want a belly tuck to repair their abdominal walls and reposition their stretched-out muscles. Others may benefit from a labiaplasty and a little BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Other physical parts that some mothers are concerned about include their hips and thighs, arms, neck fat, and skin health. We discuss liposuction, CoolSculpting®, or skin lightening treatments like intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, medical grade peels, or skin care products with clients to address these regions.
Others, on the other hand, are merely concerned in softening their crow’s feet and restoring volume to their lips and/or face to restore a more young and invigorated appearance. A Mommy Makeover for these Moms can merely entail a “sprinkling” of BOTOX® injections and/or dermal fillers for a NATURAL, never overdone look.
Finally, each Mommy Makeover performed at my office is personalized to a woman’s physique, her exact surgical wishes, her anatomy, and the realistic amount of recovery time she has. When I meet new patients for a consultation, we talk about their Mommy Makeover goals in great detail.
So that we may focus our treatment strategy on their areas of concern, women should prioritize their body issues #1, #2, #3, and so on. If their breasts and tummy are the problem regions, we’d recommend a combination operation to address both of them at the same time.
