Even if you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly you may have areas of fat on your body that are beyond your control. Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat in the buttocks, thighs other areas to give you a more contoured look.
Liposuction Procedure Overview
Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgery that is performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients receive local anesthesia with intravenous sedation for a small area, or general anesthesia for a larger area. Liposuction takes around 30 minutes for a small area while larger areas such as the torso, love handles, the abdomen and back can take up to three or four hours.
At Integrated Aesthetics, Dr. Cho favors the SlimLipo Laser Assisted Liposuction technique that targets specific fat cells. Laser liposuction uses a traditional cannula as well as a laser for the procedure. Laser Assisted Liposuction can cause less pain, blood loss and bruising than a traditional liposuction. It is also more selective in fat removal and can increase tissue tightening.
Dr. Cho will insert the laser probe through the incision sites directed toward the skin layer to stimulate the cells. The SlimLipo laser device safely targets specific fat cells that are to be removed. The laser wavelength is designed to break up and “melt” fat deposits. The SlimLipo system is flexible, making it ideal for maneuvering around the contours of varying body types.
The SlimLipo laser device can remove fat from nearly all parts of the body, including the midsection, back, thighs, buttocks, upper arms and around the face. For a very small area, the procedure takes around 30 minutes, while a 360-degree liposuction procedure which includes the abdomen, love handles, back, and all around the torso lasts three to four hours. Most patients who have received a treatment of SlimLipo can return to their normal routine after one or two days.
Liposuction surgery can be combined with complementary procedures for a better outcome. Some people also have a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) along with liposuction. Fat that is removed by liposuction can be transferred to other areas to create more fullness, such as the butt, the breasts and the face.
Alternatives to liposuction include WarmSculpting, CoolSculpting and Vanquish. In addition to the Laser Assisted Liposuction technique favored by Dr. Cho, there are several other types of liposuction techniques. These include traditional Tumescent Liposuction, PAL (Power Assisted Liposuction), UAL (Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction) and VASER Liposuction, a variation of UAL.
It is rare to have serious complications after liposuction. Dr. Cho will discuss possible risks such as hematoma, seroma, blood clots and scarring.
