Understanding Liposuction

Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgery that is performed as an outpatient procedure. You’ll receive local anesthesia with intravenous sedation for a small treatment area or general anesthesia for a larger area.

Liposuction typically takes around an hour to complete, though larger treatment areas such as the torso, love handles, abdomen, and back can add more time to the procedure.

  • Average Cost: Starts at $5,000
  • Typical Recovery Period: Three to Four Weeks
  • Discomfort Level: Moderate
  • Anesthesia Options: Local, General, or IV Sedation

Discover the Figure of Your Dreams
With Liposuction

Liposuction is a great way to get your body across the finish line when diet and exercise simply aren’t producing the results you desire. Dr. Young Cho comes with nearly 20 years of experience in the aesthetics industry, combining a keen artistic sensibility with a deep well of technical knowledge for results that regularly surpass his patients’ expectations.

At Integrated Aesthetics, Dr. Cho favors using BodyTite, a radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) technique that targets specific fat cells. BodyTite uses a traditional cannula along with radiofrequency energy for less discomfort, blood loss, and bruising than one might experience with traditional liposuction.

Which Complementary Procedures Pair Well with Liposuction?

Liposuction surgery can be combined with a number of complementary procedures for a better outcome. Our practice offers over 60 surgical and non-surgical options, and Dr. Cho will work closely to you to ensure that you enjoy truly comprehensive results. Our integrated approach is something that sets our practice apart.

Some patients opt to undergo a tummy tuck surgery (also known as abdominoplasty) along with liposuction. Fat that is removed by liposuction can also be transferred to other areas to create more fullness. Fat transfer to the butt, the breasts, and the face is a great way to enjoy cosmetic enhancements without the need for implant placement.

The Benefits of Liposuction

  • Liposuction removes pockets of body fat permanently.
  • Even large volumes of fat can be removed in a single session.
  • Fat that is removed can be used to add fullness to other areas of the body.
  • Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery that has high patient satisfaction.

What are the benefits of liposuction?

Your Liposuction Consultation

If you are in good health and you have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or below, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. Higher BMI candidates may be eligible, but there are increased risks that Dr. Cho will discuss with you during your consultation. Dr. Cho will explain that having good skin elasticity to snap into your new body contours is an important consideration. He will explain the BodyTite procedure and answer any questions you may have, as it’s our goal to ensure that you enjoy total peace of mind as you get ready to enjoy your exciting results.

The Day of Your Liposuction Surgery

During liposuction, you will be under anesthesia: either general or IV sedation for larger areas or local with sedation for smaller areas. Dr Cho will use a thin tube called a cannula that is attached to a vacuum. Before this, he will insert the laser probe through the incision sites and direct it toward the skin layer to stimulate the cells for easy fat removal.

Dr. Cho will use the BodyTite device, which utilizes laser technology to efficiently melt away persistent fat deposits. Radiofrequency energy will warm and melt fat cells prior to their removal, making the process much easier and resulting in increased patient comfort. BodyTite is FDA-approved for radiofrequency-assisted liposuction.

The BodyTite device can remove fat from nearly all parts of the body, including the midsection, back, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, and around the face. For a very small area, the procedure takes around 30 minutes, while a 360-degree liposuction procedure (which includes the abdomen, love handles, back, and torso) lasts a few hours.

Your Recovery Period After Liposuction

Most patients who have received treatment with BodyTite can return to their normal routine after a few days. Liposuction is an outpatient procedure, so you will be going home after the procedure. Dr. Cho will likely prescribe pain medication for you, but you may find that over-the-counter medications can manage your pain.

You may have some bruising, swelling, and inflammation, and some people experience numbness and nerve pain. These complications usually improve within six weeks. You can wear a compression garment for a few weeks to prevent lumpy areas from developing when the swelling goes down. Most people return to their normal activities in three to four weeks.
