A lip lift can counteract the signs of aging on your face and give you a natural and fuller appearance. The procedure can shorten a long lip, expose more of your upper teeth and allow you to avoid lip fillers. A lip lift can also make your lips more proportionate.
Lip Lift Procedure Overview
A lip lift is a customized procedure to enhance the look of your lips. The most common type is an upper lip lift that involves the removal of a small strip of skin underneath your nose. This shortens the area between the top of your lip and your nose and exposes more of the vermillion to make your lips look fuller. The procedure will also expose more of your upper teeth. A corner lip lift will raise the corners of your mouth, and a lower lip lift is generally performed if you have a very thin lower lip or an oversized upper lip.
You will probably be able to return to work in around seven days, and you can expect the incision to be swollen and red for 7-10 days after the procedure. You are likely to have some bruising around your mouth.
There are several different approaches for an upper lip lift. You will meet with Dr. Cho before the procedure so he can decide on the best approach for you. The bullhorn or subanal lip lift involves removing skin below and to the sides of the nostrils, while an Italian lip lift involves removing two small pieces of skin underneath the nostrils.
Your doctor will inject a local anesthetic to numb the area so you do not feel any pain during your lip lift. The procedure should take under an hour.
Some people combine a lip lift with rhinoplasty, although there can be some safety concerns that you should discuss with Dr. Cho.
There are several alternatives to lip lift surgery. You might opt for lip fillers, which involves injecting lips with hyaluronic acid products like Juvederm and Restylane products. For a subtle result, you can ask the doctor about Botox. A fat transfer or lip implants or surgical procedures that can also change the look of your lips
There can be some safety concerns when a lip lift is combined with open rhinoplasty.
