KYBELLA is a non-surgical, FDA-approved injectable treatment that can reduce a double chin, fullness in the jowls and other areas of excess fatty tissue. Dr. Cho will customize a treatment regimen for you based on your desired chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2-4 treatment sessions.
Kybella Procedure Overview
KYBELLA® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called, “double chin". KYBELLA causes the destruction of fat cells when injected into the fat under your chin. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After you get the desired result you will not need more KYBELLA treatments.
The best candidates for KYBELLA treatment are those who do not have an excessive amount of skin laxity. Based on your desired chin profile we will customize a treatment regimen including how many treatments you may need. While the number of treatments will vary patient to patient; many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions.
During these sessions, Dr. Cho will administer KYBELLA into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. It is recommended to use ice on the treatment area for 24-48 hours. Some bruising and swelling may occur after treatment; these symptoms usually subside after a couple of days. Dr. Cho suggests spacing your treatment sessions approximately 4-6 weeks apart.
CoolSculpting can be combined with KYBELLA to reduce larger areas of fat. Non-invasive lasers can be used to improve aging neck skin effectively and dramatically without surgery. With minimally invasive, non-surgical laser treatment there is no pain and no downtime.
Chin liposuction is commonly used to improve the appearance of a double chin.
There are no long-term side effects from using KYBELLA to improve the appearance of a double chin. However, you may experience numbness that can last from 3-6 weeks. There is aim risk of damage to the nerve that controls the smile which may cause a symmetry around your mouth. This situation generally improves in 1-4 months.
Prior to your consultation, we want to learn as much as possible about you so that we can best prepare for your visit. We want to understand your concerns, goals, timeline, and your budget to help determine whether we have the appropriate tools and options to deliver your best results.
During your consultation, your assigned Patient Experience Coordinator and Dr. Cho or Dr. Chiang will discuss your concerns in more depth. The doctor will do a physical assessment and then come up with treatment options that balance your needs to manage your downtime, your results, and how we can help address your goals. Many times, a multi-modal approach may be presented to help provide the best outcomes.
After discussing your options, you will continue your journey with your Patient Experience Coordinator to further review your quotes and review the next steps of your aesthetics plan.
