If you have brown spots from sun damage, rosacea or broken capillaries, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can help. The device was FDA-approved to treat dilated blood vessels, and today dermatologists use IPL to treat a wide range of skin conditions
Intense Pulsed Light Procedure Overview
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a versatile treatment that improves a wide range of skin conditions. Dermatologists use it as a photo rejuvenation technique to decrease brown spots from sun damage, minimize rosacea and broken capillaries. After just one use, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin. Our Lumecca device operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.
Dr. Chiang will meet with you to make sure you are a good candidate for the IPL procedure. You will receive pre-treatment instructions to explain what to avoid in the days or weeks prior to your treatment.
On the day of your Intense Pulsed Light treatment, your aesthetician will clean your skin and apply a cooling gel. You and your aesthetician will both wear protective eyewear during the procedure. The IPL device will glide and move against your skin and light pulses will be emitted by the press of a button. During treatment there will be a bright flash of light along with a light elastic sensation with each pulse.
IPL treatment generally lasts from 30-45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. After the treatment the gel is removed and the skin thoroughly cleansed. Then a soothing serum followed by a physical sunscreen is applied to protect the skin post procedure.
With IPL there is a risk of blistering, bruising, a change in skin color and infection. Patients with history of cold sores should refer to their provider for a prophylactic course of antiviral medication to prevent flares. It is recommended that you see an experienced professional for your IPL treatment.

Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Epidermal Collagen Induction Therapy or ECIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the improvement of the skin’s texture, tone and color. During this procedure, the Eclipse MicroPen® is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to aid in the production of collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles. Eclipse MicroPen® Elite also creates micro-channels which allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing the effects in deeper layers of the skin.
Reduction in the appearance for fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture and softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Eclipse Micro-Pen® Elite can improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
Micro-Pen® Elite can be used on all parts of the body: face, neck décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
A sterile cartridge containing 12 tiny micro-points is attached to the Micro-Pen® Elite. Your skin-care professional will apply sterile saline to your skin and select the appropriate pen position based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
The feeling associated with the Eclipse Micro-Pen® Elite is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip makes the treatment more comfortable.
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment.
