Facelift surgery is designed to correct skin and muscle laxity in the upper, lower and mid-face by repositioning tissues that have begun to sag with age. A face lift can address jowls and deep wrinkles in addition to creases and excess skin. After a facelift you will enjoy long-lasting results that have you looking refreshed and youthful for years.

A candidate for facelift surgery is normally in their 40’s to the 80’s. You will have visible signs of aging, such as jowls, “marionette lines,” banding in the neck, face and neck laxity and a descent of the cheeks. Good candidates for a facelift are typically non-smokers in good health with no underlying medical conditions. You should also have the desire to improve your appearance.

Before your facelift you will meet with Dr. Cho to discuss your options. Every person is different, and there are a variety of facelift techniques that are designed to address your particular problem areas and unique facial aging concerns. Dr. Cho offers targeted options to address specific areas of the face including the upper face, mid-face, lower face and neck or treating all areas.

During your consultation, Dr. Cho will talk with you about the details of your customized facelift procedure. He will discuss the ideal placement for your incisions and the type of anesthesia you will receive during surgery. Facelift surgery is typically performed while patients are under general anesthesia. The procedure takes around 2-4 hours.

BEFORE YOUR FACELIFT
Dr. Cho will perform a thorough assessment of your health and medical history before your facelift. He will answer your questions and give you pre- and post-operative care instructions. You will also receive a prescription for pain medication and antibiotics so that you may have your medications handy prior to surgery.

Before your facelift you will be instructed to avoid tobacco products and certain blood-thinning medications and supplements. You will also be instructed to avoid alcohol in the weeks and days prior to your facelift. You will be asked to report any new health concerns or illnesses to Dr. Cho immediately before your procedure so he can be sure you are healthy enough for surgery.

AFTER YOUR FACELIFT
For the first 24 hours after your facelift, a bulky dressing will cover your incisions. The incisions are usually located along the hairline, down the border of the ear and behind the ear and sometimes under the chin. The dressing along with drains that may have been placed to reduce fluid collection will be removed during your first post-operative visit on the day after surgery.

Dr. Cho will see you periodically to remove sutures and check on your healing progress during the next 1-2 weeks of your recovery. It is important to treat the operative area with care during this initial recovery period. You will be instructed to avoid having your hair treated with chemicals for 3-4 weeks following surgery. After 4-8 weeks, your healing will be mostly complete and temporary swelling, bruising and numbness should be fully resolved.

While it may take several months for your final results to be fully realized, the results are well worth the wait.

For an even better outcome, you can combine neck contouring with your facelift to improve your neck and jawline definition. Dr. Cho can also discuss other complementary procedures, including a neck lift and liposuction. Fat grafting is our most popular complementary procedure as it addresses some of the volume loss associated with the aging process. Other options include a brow lift, lip lift, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes. There are several procedures that can improve the texture of your skin, such as dermabrasion, peels, laser treatments and IPL. For a complete facial rejuvenation, facial fillers or implants can complement your facelift results and restore volume to targeted areas.

Alternatives to a full facelift include a mini-lift, a lower facelift or a neck lift, procedures that target the lower part of the face and the neck. A thread lift, the “one-hour facelift” or “lunchtime lift,” is a non-surgical option that boosts collagen levels with threads passed under your skin. There is no incisions with the thread lift.

Other non-surgical options include ultrasound therapy, RF (radiofrequency) therapy and injectable fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is commonly called the Vampire Facelift that uses your own blood combined with hyaluronic acid fillers. Dr. Cho will consult with you to discuss your best option.
