If you have loose eyelid skin, under eye bags or lower eyelid creases that make you appear tired and older, eyelid surgery can help. Dr. Cho at Integrated Aesthetics can perform customized eyelid surgery to make you appear more rested and youthful.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure Overview
Eyelid surgery is designed to improve the appearance of the eye area as the skin loses elasticity and begins to droop due to age. People also turn to blepharoplasty for the lower eyelid to reduce puffiness caused by fat pockets or if they are unhappy with the shape of their eyelids. After eyelid surgery you will have a more rested and youthful appearance.
Some people wish to further improve the appearance of their eye area. Eyelid surgery can be combined with brow surgery or fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm, or injectables like Botox and Dysport that elevate the corners of the brows and pull up the eyelids.
Prior to your eyelid surgery, technically called a blepharoplasty, you will have a consultation with Dr. Cho to discuss your options. He may instruct you to visit your ophthalmologist to make sure you don’t have any eye conditions that present a problem for surgery. Depending on your unique needs and concerns, Dr. Cho will recommend upper eye surgery, lower eye surgery or a combination of both to enhance your eyes.
During your initial consultation Dr. Cho will talk to you about the details of your customized eye surgery procedure including anesthesia. You will have the opportunity to ask questions. Upper eyelid surgery will take just 30 minutes to an hour, while lower lid surgery generally takes a little longer. If a fat transfer is also performed it can add about 30 minutes.
To achieve an even better outcome, eyelid surgery patients can opt for brow lift surgery, Botox and fat grafting procedures. These additional procedures can address issues like sagging eyebrows, crow’s feet and dark circles. Laser resurfacing is another popular procedure to combine with your eyelid surgery as it helps to strengthen, thicken and tighten the eyelids for a longer lasting result.
BLEPHAROPLASTY ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURES
While you can’t get an eyelid lift without a surgical procedure, there are some alternative procedures that can improve your appearance. A brow lift can help, as well as fillers which can elevate the corners of the brows and pull up the lids. Injectables like Botox can have a similar effect. Fillers can also help create the appearance of a smooth surface to make bags below the eye less obvious.
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is considered safe, and it has minimal side effects. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks such as a reaction to anesthesia. You may also experience swelling, bruising, bleeding, temporary blurred vision from the ointment that is applied during surgery and infection. During recovery you might have double vision, light sensitivity and watery eyes.
Prior to your consultation, we want to learn as much as possible about you so that we can best prepare for your visit. We want to understand your concerns, goals, timeline, and your budget to help determine whether we have the appropriate tools and options to deliver your best results.
During your consultation, your assigned Patient Experience Coordinator and Dr. Cho or Dr. Chiang will discuss your concerns in more depth. The doctor will do a physical assessment and then come up with treatment options that balance your needs to manage your downtime, your results, and how we can help address your goals. Many times, a multi-modal approach may be presented to help provide the best outcomes.
After discussing your options, you will continue your journey with your Patient Experience Coordinator to further review your quotes and review the next steps of your aesthetics plan.
