It is ideal to treat acne before scarring occurs. Prescription medication and professional treatments can help clear your skin when at-home measures do not work.
What Causes Acne?
People may experience acne when the hair follicles become clogged. This gives bacteria, dead skin cells, and oil the opportunity to form a plug within the hair follicle. Increased hormonal activity during puberty, menstruation, or pregnancy increases oil production and heightens the potential for an acne breakout.
There is also increasing evidence that what we eat can increase outbreaks, so we often recommend avoiding foods that can contribute to flare-ups, like refined foods and dairy.
